tom

denise had the pleasure of introducing tom and marylin at the big reading. there was a slight scofflaw at the beginning of tom's reading when a drunk young woman poet kept making loud rude comments and good 'ole tom told her to shut the f___k up! and everybody clapped! if he'd said that to me, i'd be half way to tallahassee in thirty seconds.

tomorrow more photos. i'm introducing campbell mcgrath and susan mitchell.

the festival was graced with the special presence of an american master poet (seated w/ red tie) william meredith. to the far right is marylin nelson who read later that evening with thomas lux.

there's the handsomely chiseled profile of tony hoagland and galway kinnell's intense stare as they listen to one of denise's stories.

BEATNIK BARBIE

Barbie konnte nicht aufhoren,
uber die Defizite zu lamentieren.
Ihre Finger Jalousien, die sich weigerten,
geoffnet zu werden. Ihr Daumen
abstehend und steif. Keine tolle Mutze,
sie hatte fulliges Haar, das sofort leiden wurde
unter einer modischen Kopfbedeckung.
Ein Gesicht, das die Sorgen ihrer Zeit
nur leidlich ausdrucken konnte. . .

(to read the rest of the poem, you must buyein zee book, yah!)
